It’s Day 6 of the Gratitude for Every Day 30-Day Devotion.
DEVOTION
Sometimes, thankfulness or gratitude is hard fought. That’s how it was for David in Psalm 13. Known to be "a man after God’s own heart," David faced times of despair, longing, and frustration. He had periods in which he felt God may have forgotten him.
I understand. I’ve had times like that, too. Everyone around me seems to be abounding in God’s blessing, and all I see in my own life are questions and brokenness.
I’m grateful God included David’s heart cries and questions in Scripture. They comfort me and remind me I am not alone. But David doesn’t stay there, and neither can I.
After the verses describing his doubt and anguish comes the precious three-letter word, but.
There may be pain and doubt about what David, you, and I experienced in our hard times. But, like the man after God’s own heart, let’s turn our cries and questions to David’s conclusion in Psalm 13:5, today’s verse. "But I have trusted in your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in your deliverance."
Can you think of a better reason to be grateful? God’s love is faithful and worthy of our trust. He will come through for us.
In the words of my husband, "I’ve read the end of the book, and we win—BIG!"
VERSE
