DEVOTION
Ah, that lovely moment when a favorite song comes on. An announcer at a sporting event describes the play with enthusiasm. Your pet greets you at the door. A note from a friend arrives in your inbox or mailbox. All pleasant things that cause you to pause for just a moment, smile, slow your breath ... and enjoy.
Imagine the disciples at the moment they receive word their works for Christ were not ignored.
My cat purrs when I scratch between her ears. She meows in thanksgiving, and meows in request. Her meows are small to the world, but loud and strong in my ear. She nuzzles and kneads and gives me affection. I continue to love on her because she asks me to, and when I do the reward she gives me in return is great.
"I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love towards all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers." (Ephesians 1:15-16, NRSV)
You are a modern-day disciple. You have been given the gift of being a P.A. System for Christ. You’re His broadcast channel, tuning in to frequencies all over the world. The signal may be small, but you have a captive audience, hungry for what comes next. And so you give it to them: the Word of God. And they hunger for more. And you give more.
It’s a blessed, full-circle relationship of praise bringing about blessings that bring about praise …
Lord, may I always share my faith in You, that others may be blessed through the hope You offer to them through me. I pray Your Word does not stop at me, but pours through into the lives of those around me. May my small voice be loudly received for Your Glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
VERSE
