DEVOTION
I’m writing this about 30 minutes after experiencing the fruit of a truly terrible decision. Yesterday I was running late and had to get home. I did something I NEVER do: I had to ignore the little orange light that popped up on my car’s dashboard. You know, the one that looks like a gas pump... It usually comes on when your car needs gas... My car rolls into the driveway at home, and my mind is already trying to transition from where I was to where I was about to be. You could say I was mentally and literally running on empty. Living that way will get you farther in the immediate, but make things significantly harder when that tank eventually runs dry.
This morning I hopped in the car (already late) and that little orange icon was still there, I’m pretty sure it had a little smirk on it. I honk the horn and blow kisses to my girls, as they love to watch me leave every day. My mind races to where the nearest gas station is.
It’s times like these that the slowest drivers like to be out on the roads. My heart is pounding, and my mind is racing. Will I have to call my wife to bring me a tank of gas? Will I have to make her pack the kids up because of my mistake? I can see the gas station; I half expect the car to shut off at any moment, but it doesn’t. I safely pull into the gas station, shut off the engine, and breathe a sigh of relief. "Thank You, Lord."
I want to encourage you today to look for every moment something goes right. Catch those moments, and don’t let them pass you by. Recognize that every good thing comes from the Lord, and give Him the praise. It wasn’t luck; it was the King of the Universe who was fully present in your life.
VERSE
