It’s Day 24 of the Gratitude for Every Day 30-Day Devotion.

DEVOTION

When I was a child, we were members of a main line denominational church. I loved everything about it. As the organ played a hymn, the congregation stood and sang as members of the choir would follow behind a young man who held a cross aloft. The pastor was always last in this processional line. Multi-colored bits of sunlight danced through the stained-glass windows as it rested upon your hand.

Some things about the service would change from week to week – but never the Blessing. At the end of the service, before the processional back down the aisle, the minister stood, arms outstretched, and said, “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious upon you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”

There was always something in those words that filled me with a sense of belonging. God wanted to bless and keep me safe. He wanted to smile upon me and be good to me. He wanted me to experience peace that surpasses all understanding. I felt they were the most beautiful words a person could ever write to someone else.

Years later, when I read the Bible for myself, I came across the Aaronic Blessing. How like God! He wants to bless us, not curse us! He wants to give us a future and a hope! How high and great His love is for us, to give us the most beautiful and uplifting blessing anyone could ever hear!

VERSE
