DEVOTION
Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to have heard David sing words from one of his Psalms, such as Psalms seven: “I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.” How amazing would that have been?
Many times, when I’m all alone, I sing songs to an audience of One, thanking the Lord for His unending love He shows me every day, and for the amazing things He’s done in my life. Other times, I’ll sing to Him when I’m upset, pouring out my words of regret, sorrow, or repentance to Him. My earthly father called me his “little songbird,” because he said I never stopped singing. If I stopped singing, he knew something was dreadfully wrong. Even now, one of my favorite activities is to sing.
I have been lovingly teased during praise and worship by my husband, my offspring – even my pastor – because of my love of whichever worship song I hear during service. One song will end. Then, as the opening chords of a new worship song begins, I tend to excitedly tap the person beside me and say, “Ooh! I love that song!” Invariably, the person who ends up beside me ends up saying, “Yes, I know. You love all of the songs!”
How can I not love them all – especially when they are lifting up the name of Jesus, my Lord and savior? How can I keep from singing from God’s praises, when He has loved me enough to sacrifice His all… for the likes of me? I was drowning in sin and self-hatred, when He pulled me out and set me on a place of righteousness with Him. How can you praise God according to His righteousness, today?
VERSE
