It’s Day 11 of the Gratitude for Every Day 30-Day Devotion.

DEVOTION

Living in Florida has been challenging with increasingly dangerous hurricanes that bring flooding, tornadoes, closures, and power outages. Unfortunately, people have even lost their homes and, in some instances, their lives. Yet, in comparison to those seriously afflicted living in war-torn countries suffering from civil conflict or outside attacks, my problems with losing internet and lights are trivial.
Psalm 9:11-12 reminds us to sing the Lord’s praises and proclaim what He has done among the nations. This verse emphasizes the importance of thankfulness and acknowledging God’s sovereignty.

The psalmist also highlights God’s compassion for the afflicted and persecuted. This powerful reminder that God doesn’t ignore the cries of those suffering should prompt us to examine our hearts and consider how we can emulate God’s compassion in our interactions with others.

In a world filled with turmoil and injustice, it’s easy to become desensitized to the suffering of others. But when we’re Christ followers, we’re called to remember the afflicted and extend a helping hand to those in need. We’re called to be Jesus’ hands and feet, showing compassion and love to hurting people.

Take a moment to thank God for His faithfulness and compassion toward the afflicted. Ask for the strength and wisdom to be agents of His love and mercy in a world desperately needing it. May we never ignore the cries of the afflicted, but instead, may we be moved to action, following the example of our compassionate God.
