Gratitude for Every Day
Welcome to the Gratitude for Every Day devotion!
The season of gratitude is here, and The Bridge invites you to a daily devotion during November. Every day, you’ll find a new Bible verse paired with a thoughtful devotion designed to inspire and uplift your spirit.
In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to overlook the blessings that surround us, but new research says that Gratitude and anxiety can NOT exist in your brain at the same time. So, this month, let’s pause and reflect together on the importance of giving thanks. Each devotion will encourage you to cultivate a grateful heart and recognize God’s goodness in your life.
Don’t miss out on this special opportunity to deepen your faith and embrace gratitude! Come back daily, and let’s celebrate the joy of giving thanks together!
Day 1
I sat on the couch next to Brad, staring at a mountain of unopened cards piled into a basket on the coffee table. “I haven’t had the heart to open them,” he said without looking at me.
Day 2
The day my brother died - it changed me forever. I believed it was the worst period of my life until my mother died eight weeks later.
Day 3
How often do you think about your thanks? When we receive something for a holiday, we appreciate it because our mind has prepared us to do so out of tradition and respect.
Day 4
I felt an urging in my heart: "Bundle up your boy, place him in his bicycle seat, and check your postbox." "But Lord," I replied, "I checked my postbox ten minutes ago."
Day 5
We may feel unable to give to others, especially when we struggle to provide for our immediate family. God understands!
Day 6
Sometimes, thankfulness or gratitude is hard fought. That’s how it was for David in Psalm 13. Known to be a man after God’s own heart...
Day 7
When the late Fred Rogers was a child, he related how frightened he became by the scary things in the news - and how his mother's words helped.
Day 8
What He secures for us is beyond anything we can imagine—we should be filled with an awe that causes trembling with delight and wordless appreciation.
Day 9
One of my favorite worship songs of all time is "The Goodness of God." In the song, it tells how God’s mercy never fails. From the moment we awake, until we lay our heads down...
Day 10
Do you love with your whole heart? Do you love when it’s convenient? Joyous? Fulfilling? How about when the season is terrible? Troublesome? Traumatic?
Day 11
Living in Florida has been challenging with increasingly dangerous hurricanes. Unfortunately, people have even lost their homes and, in some instances, their lives.
Day 12
Let my heart be ruled by the peace of Christ. The words flow off the tongue pretty easily but applying them and living as someone ruled by peace isn’t as simple.
Day 13
Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to have heard David sing words from one of his Psalms...
Day 14
In the summer of 2021, an orange kitty zipped to and fro throughout my neighborhood. His golden eyes displayed a weariness that belied its young age. I pitied that scared little cat.
Day 15
I lay in bed staring at the clock. "3:30 AM" shone in a soft red glow. An ongoing family crisis had been turning around and around in my mind all night.
Day 16
On October 19th, 2009, my dad suffered an "AAA": Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. Statistically, 97% of those who experience an AAA don’t make it to the hospital on time.
Day 17
Praying isn’t always easy. Praying in thanksgiving during difficult times can be hard, and praying for others who give our life challenges can be even harder.
Day 18
I often find myself overwhelmed looking at what I haven’t yet accomplished, what I’ve failed to achieve, and how I haven’t measured up.
Day 19
How would you describe your place of worship? Is it traditional, where your father, and generations before you attended? Is it a caring church, a teaching church, or a modern church?
Day 20
Life is hard, and sometimes you find yourself at rock bottom. This is where Jonah was in our verse today.
Day 21
Usually, when one hears the word, "bless," one might think of saying, "God bless you," following a sneeze. Or, we might hear the obligatory, "Bless this food which we are about to receive..." before a meal.
Day 22
When Hurricane Isabel wreaked havoc along the East Coast in 2003, I implored my husband to board up the windows on our house. We moved to the Eastern Shore less than three months prior...
Day 23
Gratitude, what is that? One might think being thankful is when we get what we want, or everything is going our way, but that is just not deep gratitude. It's superficial.
Day 24
When I was a child, we were members of a main line denominational church. I loved everything about it.
Day 25
I’m writing this about 30 minutes after experiencing the fruit of a truly terrible decision. Yesterday I was running late and had to get home.
Day 26
I don’t know about you, but to me, the word "sacrifice" usually means to give up something precious, to release it without expecting it back.
Day 27
I used to teach my children piano, and I played the keyboard for my former church's worship team. I also led worship for our women’s retreats.
Day 28
Anyone who’s ever participated as a volunteer during Fundraiser at The Bridge knows how special that time is for all involved.
Day 29
Ah, that lovely moment when a favorite song comes on. An announcer at a sporting event describes the play with enthusiasm. Your pet greets you at the door.
Day 30
Before Wednesday Bible study commences at my church, everyone gets together to share a meal. A different theme is chosen each week; attendees can choose to bring...
