The Rock
Remember the song you sang as a child in Sunday School about the wise man? The wise man built his house upon the rock and the rain came tumbling down. The rains came down and the floods came up...and the house on the rock stood firm. But the foolish man built his house upon the sand. The same rains came down and the floods still rose...but the foolish man's house went splat!
All you have to do is plant your feet at the water's edge of the beach and watch the waves wash up over your feet and back out to sea. The sand around your feet starts to slide away with the water and leaves you a little wobbly and needing to find fresh sand. Just imagine if your house was built there? It wouldn't stand for long, would it??!!
Jesus taught this in Matthew 7:24-27. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
Jesus is the Rock. We must build the foundation of our faith on Him!
