The Real Enemy

Have you ever been walking along and suddenly your heart starts to beat a little faster? The hair on your arms or the back of your neck feels like its standing up. Your body tenses up and you are keenly aware that something is amiss. Danger isn't showing itself...but you have a sense that something is a potential threat and your awareness to your surroundings is heightened.

Don't ever discount that sensitivity to danger. The Holy Spirit within us will often alert us to unseen enemies. Not to scare us...but to remind us...that we are not home yet. And we have work to do while we are still in this world.

Ephesians 6:12 tells us, "for we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places."

Knowing that, and having a sense that there is trouble near, isn't meant to scare us. We must not live in fear. Instead, believe 1 John 4:4 and its promise to us. "You belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world."

Let that truth take place in your heart and your mind...and take courage!
