The Echo Of God
Have you ever stood at the edge of a canyon and hollered? If you listen, you'll hear the words you hollered echo - bouncing around the vast hollow. It's your voice that you hear coming back to you and yet it's not you across the hollow. It's your likeness but it's not you.
We are an echo. A reflection. We will either echo God or we will echo the world. Of all God's creation, the worlds, the stars, the plants and animals, God made US in His image. Genesis 1 gives us a glimpse of His incredible creativity and in verse 26, "Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us." Of all that He created, none were created to reflect His image - to be an echo of God - except us.
Once sin crept into the Garden and tainted mankind it became a daily decision to echo God or echo the world. Oh, what a beautiful calling God placed in us to bear His image, to be His echo to the world around us. When we speak to our spouse and our children, our co-workers and strangers we meet on the way, even the way that we speak to ourselves is either an echo of God or the tainted world in which we live.
Joshua 24:15 (NLT) is a proclamation worth echoing today...and every day. "Choose this day whom you will serve.... As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord."
