The Desire and The Power
"I just don't feel like it!" If you're like me you've said that at least once. I think it begins in childhood and it's something we may deal with all of our lives. The struggle to do what we know we should - when we should! The Apostle Paul talked about it in Romans 7... knowing what to do and not doing it. I love how Paul follows up a whole section of his letter on the law and sin with the first two verses of Romans 8. 'Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.'
No condemnation. I'm grateful that we don't have to live in condemnation and I love that God, through His Holy Spirit, sparks our heart to do what we should, when we should do it. This verse in Philippians 2:13 (NLT) jumped off the page of my Bible recently. "For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him." The desire AND the power! Face it, sometimes we want to do good but we either don't know how or don't have the strength to do whatever the right thing is to do. Sometimes we have what we need to do it...and our heart's just not in it to do it.
Let this be our prayer today: Father, we're so grateful that Jesus came to set us free from the law of sin and death. That we can LIVE free and not under condemnation. Thank YOU for working within us, giving us the desire AND the power to do what brings joy to YOUR heart! In Jesus' name, Amen.
